Tom Alkire is a journalist and author who is trying to answer one of life's most perplexing questions: why go fishing? Others target the how-to and where-to, but Alkire explores the why. After writing dozens of magazine stories and three books he is still looking for the answer: there's just something about those beautiful fish and their haunting waters that mesmerize us.
Alkire's latest book was published by Stackpole Books on Sept. 1, 2019 titled, Western Waters: Fly Fishing Memories and Lessons From Twelve Rivers. Other books include, There's More to Fishing (Than Catching Fish) and River Stories: Headwaters to the Sea. His essays have been published in Flyfishing & Tying Journal, Gray's Sporting Journal, Sporting Classics, Willamette Week, Salmon Trout Steelheader and other publications.
"Tom Alkire is one of the very finest outdoor writers it has been my pleasure to read. He brings the outdoor experience into the reader's soul in a soothing, comfortable way that promotes understanding and awe and the desire of personal involvement."

"Tom Alkire...has written a fine little book that encapsulates one fisherman's experience, and in doing so has captured and conveyed the sport's (some might say 'religion's') universal mystique."
Paul Pintarich, Oregon Magazine review on There's More to Fishing (Than Catching Fish.)
